We set out at 11:45 from NUS. In SIM, Mr Tan who is the director of Kriston Food & Beverage presented during the food tasting process. There were chiken rice, several types of noodles, western food, Lasak, spaghetti, pasta, sandwich, fish soup etc. He provided various kinds of food. After tasting, we went back to OED and made appraisement. All admitted his operation in NUS in the future.

The interviews on alternative dinning places applicants when Deck is under upgrading

Today, I have attent the interviews (organized by OED) of the following contractors and applicants
(1) MOBILE FOOD VAN AT FORUM
(2) TEMPORARY CANTEEN UNDER TENT AT EITHER CAR PARK 16 (BESIDE LECTURE THEATRE 11) OR PARK BEHIND CENTRAL LIBRARY FORUM
(3) PUSH CART AT FORUM AND WALKWAY ALONG LECTURE THEATRES (LT) 14 AND 15

After the meeting, the committee decided
(1) Mr Ong Seng Yap Operator DHSS Delight is accepted to run the mobile food van at forum.
(2) a food tasting for Megabites Food Pte Ltd (KRISTON FOOD & BEVERAGE) who will operate the temporary canteen under tent @ car park no.16/forum on next Monday.

A brief summary of SIFE AGM

The Annual General Meeting of NUS Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) was held on 31 October at the Alumni House. Martin, Zhang lina and I attended the meeting. There were corporate leaders from HSBC, Chesterton International and AIG, professors from Business School as well as from USP and Political Science, and student leaders from other clubs and societies in NUS attended the meeting. They officially were welcoming in the new blood of NUS SIFE while ushering out the old committee. There was also a brief introduction to NUS SIFE and its direction in the coming year, and their portfolio of projects. Surprisingly few student leaders attended the meeting. I guess few people know about the meeting or even SIFE itself. By the way, the Light refreshments served after the meeting was quite good ^_^. SIFE is a global non-profit organization active in more than 40 countries. SIFE is funded by financial contributions from corporations, entrepreneurs, foundations, government agencies and individuals. Working in partnership with business and higher education, SIFE establishes student teams on university campuses. These teams are led by faculty advisors and they are challenged to develop community outreach projects that reach SIFE's five educational topics: • Market Economics • Success Skills • Entrepreneurship • Financial Literacy • Business Ethics SIFE team members leverage their personal educational experiences, the expertise of their faculty advisors, the support of their local business advisory boards, and the resources of their institutions to implement programs that create real economic opportunities for members of their communities. The effectiveness of their programs is judged at competition. Each national SIFE organization conducts a national competition, which is judged by leaders from its business community. At competition, SIFE teams present the results of their educational outreach projects and compete to determine which team was most successful at creating economic opportunity for others. food tasting session

On 19 Oct, Thursday, 1 pm to 2 pm, GSS was invited for a food tasting session at the Office of Estate and Development. There was only one candidate who is dealing with muslim food and now working in Arts canteen. The owner appealed for approval to move to Science canteen.

The committee for food evaluation was comprised of one GSS representative, a couple of undergraduate students and and several NUS staff.

The food stall owner has provided various kinds of food to taste. Generally, all the kinds of food provided were tasty, so we voted for it. The application was approved by the committee.

Meeting with Board of Graduate Studies

Last Friday (Sept 29, 2006) we met up with Board of Graduate Studies (BGS). BGS invites GSS to bring up and discuss the issues related with the graduate students every semester.

Board of Graduate Studies is mainly comprised of vice-deans (graduate studies) of various faculties and is chaired by A/P Prakash KUMAR, Faculty Associate (Education), Office of the Provost.

This time we have brought up 10 issues. We had quite a fruitful discussion. I was glad to see the eagerness of BGS to solve the problems related to graduate students. My overall impression from this meeting was positive.
